Salem UK tour | October 2021
Salem is the fun, goth-y love songs, side project from Will Gould of Creeper and Matthew Reynolds. Initially music was put out as something to share while the world was in lockdown and soon followed a 2nd EP, some socially distanced shows, a full headline UK tour, and even a song making the closing credits of the latest 'Scream' film.
I went down to capture some shows across their UK headline tour in October in Huddersfield, Glasgow, and Manchester, where they were supported by Welsh band James and The Cold Gun.
Salem on stage bring much needed joy and plenty singalongs after so long being cooped up inside. The overall vibe is completely different to a Creeper show. Here there is no performing in character respecting the narrative of the worlds they have created across their records, and in its place with Salem is a lighthearted high energy. Will Gould bouncing across the stage and clearly relishing the chance to reconnect with audiences in smaller, barrier free venues once again.
The band play songs from their 2 EPs and even add in a cover of New Rose by The Damned, which is as well received as their own work.
Regardless of the band he's fronting Will Gould continuously brings much need escapism to the stages of the UK.
